This new direction stemmed from the desire to convey, through photography, the atmosphere of places and the emotions they evoke in me: an impulse that was initially instinctive, then conscious. But the sensations evoked by these places are often attenuated, largely compromised, by the daily chaos: incessant traffic, cars parked even in the narrow alleys of the districts, chaotic crowds… An almost omnipresent filter that stifles the magic and the sumptuous beauty of the historic center.
Whenever possible, I therefore try to compose the scene by isolating the subject from the distracting elements, with the aim of creating possibly timeless images that escape a precise temporal placement. Often, very sharp lights and shadows help me achieve the desired result. In these places and moments, even human figures, if present, become indistinct silhouettes, part of a suspended, at times dreamlike, overall picture.
Rome and black and white are the protagonists of much of my work, but I invite you to discover other things as well by browsing these pages, with a piece of advice: to best appreciate the photographs, I suggest viewing them on a computer screen.
Welcome!
